Who are we?
Niels Krijgsman and Johan van Weeghel – two typical Dutch adventurers with a passion for exploration, endless bike rides, and the firm belief that with a tent, two wheels, and a good attitude, you can go a long way.
What started as a spontaneous cycling trip has now grown into Okay Biking: our shared platform to tell stories, capture moments, and inspire others to embark on their own journeys. We believe in the power of simple travel – the freedom of bikepacking, embracing the unknown, and, most importantly, enjoying the journey itself.
Curious about who we are, what we do, and where we’re heading?

Hi!
I’m Niels Krijgsman. I’m 38 years old at the time of writing, and I’ve always had a deep love for cycling. In daily life, I tend to value structure and security—but during bikepacking trips, I let go of that and embrace the unknown.
My passion for cycling started at a young age. I was always outside on my bike—first doing loops around the village I grew up in, later riding to the nearby city for school. What began as a necessity eventually turned into something I deliberately made time for: longer rides, heading off to discover new places.
In 2015, I went on my first proper bikepacking trip—from the Netherlands to Basel, Switzerland. That experience changed something in me. It sparked a feeling so powerful, it became addictive. After coming back, I promised myself I’d keep doing this for the rest of my life. There’s a unique kind of freedom you feel on the road, one that’s hard to put into words.
Letting go of everything familiar and just going. Even the preparation is part of the adventure: gathering gear, planning routes, diving into other people’s stories. It’s a world of its own, one you only truly understand once you’re in it.
Since 2018, I’ve been cycling all over Europe with my good friend Johan van Weeghel. Together we’ve built not only countless memories, but also a strong friendship that’s grown with every kilometer we ride. Long days in the saddle, unexpected setbacks, stunning views, and shared meals under the stars—these things create a bond that’s hard to describe but easy to feel. We know how to push each other, when to joke, and when to simply ride in silence.
That connection is a big part of what makes these trips so meaningful.
One unforgettable moment was the day we crossed Durmitor National Park in Montenegro. We knew it would be tough—but it turned out to be one of the hardest days we’ve ever had. Endless climbing, breathtaking views, and finally reaching the top after hours of struggling. We were completely exhausted, but the reward was worth every drop of sweat. That day
tested not just our physical limits, but also our friendship—and it only made us stronger. It’s those moments that stick with you.
Okay Biking is all about adventure, freedom, connection—and friendship. We want to show people that you don’t need to look far to find something special—just hop on your bike. Two wheels, a route, and the will to go. Along the way, you’ll meet people, discover new places, and get to know yourself (and your travel buddy) better. And best of all: you get to share the
journey.
With Okay Biking, we hope to inspire others. Whether you dream of a weekend ride close to home or a multi-week trek through unfamiliar landscapes, we’re here to share our experience. From gear and routes to wild camping tips and mental prep—we don’t claim to know everything, because we’re still learning too. But that’s what makes it exciting.
Visitors to our website and YouTube channel can expect honest stories, scenic travel videos, and practical tips for their own cycling adventures. We share the highs, the lows, and everything in between. And we do it all with a good dose of humor—because laughing at yourself (and each other) is part of the fun. No polished, picture-perfect stories—just real-life
adventures, fueled by friendship, curiosity, and two strong legs.

Hello and welcome!
My name is Johan van Weeghel, and I’m happy to welcome you to my website. Whether you’ve landed here out of curiosity, looking for inspiration, or simply want to learn more about who I am and what I love—thanks for stopping by.
Let me tell you a bit about myself and what drives me.
A love for the outdoors and life on two wheels
Outside of my professional life, I find the greatest joy in being outdoors. Nature, freedom, and adventure are what fuel me. One of my biggest passions is cycling—especially bikepacking. There’s something truly special about heading out on my bike with only the essentials packed, ready to explore whatever lies ahead.
Bikepacking, for me, is the perfect blend of adventure, simplicity, and freedom. It allows me to go off the beaten path, immerse myself in nature, and travel at my own pace. Whether I’m navigating forest trails, climbing mountain passes, or winding through quiet countryside roads, every trip feels like an opportunity to reset, reflect, and reconnect with the world around me.
I’m also an enthusiastic boulderer. I love the challenge of climbing, both physically and mentally, and the meditative experience of focusing completely on a single movement. When I’m not on the bike or a boulder, I often spend time birdwatching—a peaceful way to connect with the rhythms of the natural world.
My work as a Community Builder
Professionally, I work as a social worker in the role of Community Builder. What excites me most about this work is the chance to use my creativity and organizational skills to create real, meaningful change in my community. I believe deeply in the power of connection—bringing people together, amplifying voices, and creating environments where everyone feels seen and supported.
From supporting grassroots initiatives to organizing community events, my work allows me to make a tangible impact in the lives of others. It’s a role that constantly challenges and inspires me—and one that I approach with both passion and purpose.
A life of discovery and meaningful adventure
In both my personal and professional life, I’m always looking for new challenges and experiences. Adventure, growth, and meaningful connection are at the heart of how I live. My bikepacking trips give me the perfect opportunity to embrace all of that—combining physical adventure with cultural discovery and moments of deep reflection.
Each journey offers more than just a route on a map—it becomes a story, a lesson, and often, a new perspective.
Let’s connect
