Cycling Adventures with Okay Biking: A Journey of Friendship, Freedom, and Purpose

I was recently interviewed by Chelsea about my cycling holidays, and it became clear to me once again why these trips are so much more than just exploring new places. I take these cycling trips with Niels, a good friend, and it’s the combination of adventure, friendship, and the feeling of doing something good that makes these journeys so special.

Our journey began in the Netherlands, where we kicked off our cycling adventure. Every year, we cycle a bit further until, by 2027, we plan to take on our grand journey through Asia. The goal is to reach Istanbul step by step, adding more kilometers each year. It’s an ongoing challenge, and every mile we conquer feels like progress. What makes it even more meaningful is that we’re not just doing this for ourselves, but also for a good cause.

Why do I take on this adventure with Niels? Simple—cycling together makes the whole thing a lot more manageable. It’s not just about the physical challenge of the long rides, but also about sharing the experience. We talk, joke around, and deal with the ups and downs of the journey together, which makes it all more bearable. We’ve got a good understanding of each other, and it works. It’s not always perfect, but that’s part of the deal.

What really drives us, though, is the good cause we’re cycling for. It adds an extra layer of motivation. Every kilometer we ride isn’t just about ticking off distance; it’s about knowing we’re making a difference. The cause keeps us going when things get tough, and it makes all the hard work feel worthwhile.

Cycling for hours with someone isn’t always easy. It’s more than just covering miles—it’s about staying focused and sticking with it. Sometimes it’s tough, especially when the weather isn’t on our side. But having someone there who understands what it takes to keep going makes all the difference. Even when things aren’t going great, we push through, knowing we’ve got each other’s back.

What motivates me most to continue these cycling holidays is the sense of freedom. It’s about disconnecting from the everyday grind and losing myself in the moment. The nature around us, the changing landscapes, and the feeling of the wind in my face make it all worthwhile. And even when it’s hard, the satisfaction of pushing through and the memories we make along the way keep me coming back for more.

Cycling with Niels isn’t just about the challenge; it’s about getting something out of the experience that you can’t get on your own. It’s a journey that’s not just about reaching a destination, but about sharing the ride and learning something new along the way.

Thanks to Okay Biking, we can take on these adventures in comfort and with fewer worries, all while supporting a good cause. It’s the perfect mix of fun, purpose, and friendship, as we make our way towards Istanbul and, in 2027, our much-anticipated journey through Asia.
